Eye Socket Reconstruction in Gurgaon

If you wear an artificial eye but the socket has shrunk, sags, or no longer holds the prosthesis well, socket reconstruction can restore a comfortable, natural fit. At Dayal Eye Centre, our oculoplastic surgeon rebuilds the anophthalmic (eye-less) socket — correcting volume loss, contracture and lid problems — so a prosthesis sits securely and looks right.

Understanding the Procedure

What Is Anophthalmic Socket Reconstruction?

After an eye is removed, the socket can change over time — losing volume, contracting (shrinking), or developing eyelid laxity — so the artificial eye no longer fits, moves or looks as it should. Socket reconstruction addresses these problems.

Techniques may include adding volume with an implant or graft, deepening a contracted socket, and correcting eyelid position — tailored to your situation.

Problems We Correct
Volume loss

A sunken, hollow look after the socket loses volume — rebuilt with an orbital implant or graft so the prosthesis sits forward and full.

Socket contracture

A shrinking socket that shortens the pockets holding the artificial eye — deepened and re-lined so the prosthesis stays in place.

Eyelid laxity

Loose or sagging lids that no longer support the prosthesis — tightened and repositioned for a secure, natural fit.

Poor prosthesis fit

An artificial eye that slips, tips or looks asymmetric — addressed by reconstructing the socket and refitting the prosthesis.

Our Approach

How Can We Help?

Depending on the problem, reconstruction may involve replacing or upgrading an orbital implant, grafting to rebuild lining or fornices (the pockets that hold the prosthesis), and adjusting the eyelids for a secure fit and natural look. We coordinate with the ocularist so the prosthesis is refitted for the reconstructed socket.

The aim is comfortable, long-term wear and a symmetrical appearance.

How We Rebuild the Socket
Assess

A careful examination maps the problem — volume, socket depth, lining and eyelid position — to plan the right reconstruction for your case.

Add volume

Where volume is lost, an orbital implant is replaced or upgraded, or a graft added, so the prosthesis sits forward and symmetrical.

Rebuild lining

A contracted socket is deepened and the fornices — the pockets that hold the prosthesis — are rebuilt with grafts where needed.

Lids & refit

Eyelid position is corrected for a secure fit, and we coordinate with the ocularist so the prosthesis is refitted for the reconstructed socket. Results vary by individual.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Over time an eye-less socket can lose volume, contract or develop eyelid laxity, so the artificial eye stops fitting, moving or looking natural. Reconstruction rebuilds the socket so the prosthesis sits securely and comfortably again.

That’s the goal — reconstruction restores the volume, lining and eyelid support the prosthesis needs. We coordinate with the ocularist to refit the prosthesis for the reconstructed socket.

It ranges from relatively minor adjustments to more involved grafting, depending on the problem. Your surgeon will explain what your case needs and what recovery to expect.

Reconstruction of a socket for a medical/functional reason is usually covered, subject to your policy. We help with pre-authorisation.

At Dayal Eye Centre, our oculoplastic surgeon (Dr. Saurbhi Khurana), AIIMS- and Leicester-trained, performs anophthalmic socket reconstruction.
