Newborns are checked for basic eye health, and a formal vision assessment is useful around age 3-4 - or sooner if you notice a squint, a white reflex in photos, head-tilting or sitting very close to screens.
Signs include a squint, sitting close to the TV, head-tilting, frequent eye-rubbing, one weaker eye, or difficulty at school. Children rarely say their vision is poor, so screening is the surest way to catch problems.
Yes - lazy eye (amblyopia) is very treatable when caught early, usually with glasses and patching or drops. Treatment works best in early childhood.

Squint (Strabismus)

No - a true squint needs assessment, because untreated it can cause lazy eye. A persistent or noticeable squint should be checked (a brief wandering in young babies can be normal).
Yes - squint can be corrected at any age, improving alignment and appearance and sometimes relieving double vision. It’s a common, safe day-care procedure.
Reported success is around 70-90% for good alignment; some eyes need a second procedure or ongoing glasses/exercises.
